About

Get to know the person behind CivilAg Safety Advisor, and the experience that shapes how we work.

About

Thirty years on the tools before a single safety document was written

Gary Black has worked since the age of 15, starting in window and door manufacturing, then spending over a decade behind the wheel of heavy vehicles and gas tankers across Victoria and interstate. From there he moved into civil construction and water infrastructure, working as a water quality inspector, civil construction auditor, and programmed works coordinator across South East Water and East Gippsland Water.

At 55, Gary was head-hunted to train and assess for the water industry, going on to study for his Diploma in WHS and Diploma in Training Design & Development while working as a civil trainer with the Civil Contractors Federation. He’s now Safety and Training Manager at Bulmer Farms in Lindenow, and founder of CivilAg Safety Advisor.

That career path, truck driver, civil construction supervisor, trainer, auditor, safety manager, means Gary writes safety documents from the perspective of someone who has actually done the job, not just studied it.

Our Approach

Tailor Made

Built from the ground up. Every document starts with how your business actually operates on site, not a generic template.

Compliance Focussed

Compliance without the runaround. Safety systems that meet Victorian OHS requirements and stay simple enough for your team to actually use.

Extensive Experience

Experience that's been on site. Decades across civil construction, agriculture, and transport, not just consulting from behind a desk.

Experience you can put to work

Gary holds multiple diplomas and certificates across WHS, training and assessment, and civil construction, alongside more than 25 site-specific tickets and licences covering everything from traffic management to confined space work and emergency control.

That depth of hands-on qualification means the systems we write are grounded in how the work is actually done.
